The four dangers of AI

The Four Dangers of AI  OpenAI and other codes are now giving answers to questions that would make scholars proud. They are literate, organized, and work tirelessly. They even come up with unpredictable answers even their programmers don’t understand. AI codes with only millions of parameters do not exhibit this, but those with billions of parameters have produced unexpected results, something like overnight. Apparently, the baby’s brain develops in leaps and bounds according to neuroscientists as the brain develops functionality. AI is just a baby or maybe a toddler. Billions of parameters are approaching our brain’s capabilities. So perhaps the LLMs are beginning an assault on humans at a basic level. Here we summarize the four most fundamental dangers of AI. A. The biggest danger is  trust . When medical diagnostic programs become standard, what doctor will have the courage to contravene?  Imagine a government trusting LLMs for making decisions. It is then, as they say, "in t

Fear vs Trust

Two great actor appeared on stage to discuss politics. Remarkably, both were brief. Actor A. People should not fear their government. The government should fear the people. Actor B. People should trust their government and government should trust the people. Fear vs Trust, the conflict of our day and of most days, with interludes fondly remembered in brief chapters on human progress.

Pandemic of Distrust

Ever since I was a kid, the Democrats would grumble when Republicans were elected, and vice-versa. Yet, we had confidence all were loyal Americans trying their best to make America a great place to live. None would say this group or that was out to remake America. That would be excessive. Such language was forbidden. Today, we see the Democrats believe all Republicans desire full-boated fascism, jack-boots, and all. The Republicans believe all Democrats want Marxism, with total government control. What we have is the creation of a nuevo Pandemic of Distrust . This is new in the past few decades. Subtracting COVID completely changes nothing. COVID merely revealed it.   In totalitarian, fascist, and even monarchical states, distrust is their common state of existence, and this is why they have relied so completely on the gun. They accept their opponents’ blood-lust and take constant measures to maintain power. At this time, the USA is none of these, but nonetheless, it has been inf

Random Thoughts -21

Our trust in politicians is shattered. Our trust in business is conditional . Our trust in medical science hangs by a thread. Destroying trust is but a step toward anarchy. It is probable that many of us sometimes hear voices in our head, but it is certain that some of us never hear the voice of reason. Did you know the yo-yo has been around since the times of ancient Greece? Found in my last fortune cookie:   “You will soon buy a fortune cookie company.   Good luck.” It is that great General, master of command and victory, who loves war as being the only way to find personal emotions, a mixture of love and sadness for the fallen?

Cell Phone Mystery Messaging

Suppose you heard the new high resolution phones with high megapixel cameras could send subliminal messaging through the camera lens into your eye and brain to market products to you. The programming keeps track on how you respond to these messages and adjusts the messages accordingly.   Moreover, the advanced programming required to transmit such messages is a product of China.   Would you believe this? | | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| If you said yes , I believe this, it reveals a very deep concern you have about what companies may be willing to do, and secretly at that. At minimum, you are willing to believe that “reasonable” sounding technology innovations are likely true. ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Just a Few, Ma'am

3/27/18. Now retired! Spend much time watching the stock market, where many of my $$ are invested. Last week was depressing. So, I watch the business news, a lot.   Fact about business shows: they trot in well dressed bull market advocates alternatively with equally well dressed bear market advocates. After enough of this, you are totally confused. What I've noticed about these "experts" is that each uses only a few parameters upon which they rely.   These are mixed with a rather heavy helping of intuition.  Just like us in every day living. Turning to politics, we are led to our leaders and which or what are the few parameters that guide them.   For Obama, it seemed that globalism and its corollaries were at the base of his thinking.   Namely, his desire to convert the world to a globalist Utopian dream.   Simple and idealistic.   For Trump, the parameters are not that clear, but he seems to prefers a more nationalistic view of the world where it remains divided int

Trust-Tennis-Tweets

Trust is the currency between peoples.    Destroy trust and you destroy the world. Currently, trust is eroding everywhere, interpersonal, interparty, intercountry, across the world. In the congress, in the press, in the workplace. Trust and love have one common quality.  Once lost, they are near impossible to recover. ---------------------------- Summing up the Reps and Dems.  Problem at hand: Deciding the color of the toilet paper in congressional restrooms.  Solution Reps: Unable to compromise, adjourn for vacation.  Solution Dems: Unable to consider or process request, await decision from leadership. -------------------------- If you watch tennis these days, you will see that every player seems to hit the ball harder than ever, with more spin, and with more skill than ever before. Many come with an entourage of personal coaches.  But the dress is what you first notice, particularly if you’re not a player.  Many of the men dress as though they came to mow the lawn, wor

Ben Carson and Trust

If you are following the presidential primary circus, you may be asking by Ben Carson’s trust numbers are so high and why Trump’s or Hillary’s numbers are not.   It is a puzzlement because Carson has done little beyond pediatric neurosurgery in his previous life. So, why then are Carson's trust numbers so high?  In my view, it’s because he is a doctor, and most Americans trust their doctor.  This trust transfers to Carson, who has the same manner as their doctor or the manner they wish their doctor had.   Most people suppose and believe their doctor has THEIR interests and health at heart, first and foremost.   In fact, any candidate on either side has little chance of obtaining such numbers unless the trust is conferred by association.   If the same Ben Carson was an accountant, professor, lawyer, engineer or anything else, identical in all other respects,   this trust would not be conferred. I suggest that Carson as a VP candidate would serve well to the Presidenti

Thoughts - Part VI

A. “ Hope and Trust ” is a campaign slogan no one dares use these days – or ever.   Indeed, it seems never to have been used, but every campaigner at some point begins or concludes a speech beginning with the sentence, “I hope and trust …. “   This is the candidate’s principle platitude.   This is the phrase that enjoins the candidate to the voter, the stakeholder of the community.   This is the phrase that conjures faith in the what the following predicate and object suggest.     I presume no candidate will ever have the nerve to venture forth with this loaded couplet of terms as a slogan.   While many hope for the better, and while many have trust better times are before us, none use it as a slogan. It doesn’t resonate with anyone - except in the negative.   It asks just too much to believe. For the politician... Asking for trust is too much to hope for.  Hoping for trust is asking too much. Hope is a vague term having individual meanings for each voter.   Some hope for
