Politics 2018

Politics in America edges ever closer and closer to insanity. It seems that when a politician arrives in DC, they are instructed to leave intelligence behind - and do. They need help - in the form of a GPS direction finder. The Democrats used their new on board GPS destination finder with input destination “Victory this fall.” Their machine first tells them “Lean left.”   Then “Turn left.” Then “Veer left.” Then “Lurch left.” The “Swerve left.” Then “Collapse to the left.” Then “Go Cuban.” Got it. Even poor Nancy has been caught by the new GPS machine. When Schumer buys-in, the mission is complete.  ---------------------------- The Republicans also bought such a machine, giving it the same destination.  Their machine told them “Lean this way and that way and this way and that way and …” And that’s just what they’re doing. ----------------------------- Now Trump looks this over and says, you guessed it, "I don't need no stinkin' machine.&quo

Random Thoughts - 17

Hypocrisy is a minor flaw swamped in the wake of pure hate. ---------------------  Left-Right-Left … We all know “left” and “right” are not colors.   This does not stop some people from painting everything in their lives, beliefs, statues, religion, and friends as left or right. Tiring, boring, and simplistic, but there it is.  --------------------- We are all slaves – but to what? The only old form of slavery absent in the US anyway is human ownership.    Other than that, we have bunches of new ones, many being self-slavery, together with the retinue of all the old ones.   Topping today’s list for tots of all ages are cell phones and video games. Withdrawal is experienced if their device is removed even for a short period. Another new category is the blogger, through which the writer communicates with unknown readers.   Detached friendship?    Television slaves, junkies, or bingers, come in types such as news, shopping, sitcoms, old re-runs, and sports.

Political Agnostics

The agnostics of modern politics are at the center.  Staking a position of non adherence, the center picks and chooses between what is perceived of significance: truth, falseness, and hence of value. The battle on this earth is for this elusive center.  They shift to and fro depending on the cause, the issue, or the belief.  These agnostics discriminate, not having allegiance to a dogma.  Something like a school of fish they can change course on the slightest alert, causing the predators (left or right) unlimited grief. The agnostics of politics, i.e. the center, have always been the breach within political discourse, and now has become the prime decision factor in elections.  What is distressing is that the polarity of politics has created the importance of this variable center, a fact neither the left nor the right fully understand.

Thoughts XXIX- post election

Religious fervor has less to do with religion than it has as a state of mind.   It is single minded, righteous, and self-justified. It is the guiding light of every form of extremism.     It promotes a single agenda, often in the form of “against them.” The further to the left the left goes, the longer the Republicans will stay in power.   For the left… More promises will not help.   More globalization will not help. More open borders will not help. More food stamps will not help. More student disruptions will not help.   More political correctness will not help. The moral of this story is,   “Go left and lose; go far left and lose big.” If Bernie Sanders, a decent person, re-emerges at least control to the Dem agenda, the Reps win for sure. Every Hollywood celebrity vowing to leave the country if the Rep wins gives the Reps an extra 10,000+ votes.   Is anyone on the left swayed by departure promises from such folks? Doubtful.   Probably, most are trying to boost thems

Presidential Politics VII - Left or Right

What we see in the current political races, both Democratic and Republican, is a race to the extreme.  The Democrats are not only drifting left but racing that away.   There is no limit to social programs they propose; cost seems not to be an option. The Republicans are constantly invoking the Reagan litmus test of conservatism.   Realism is lost.  The Republican candidates, such as Cruz, argue against the non-conservative purity of Trump.  They view this as key.  Each of them scrap against the over who is the most pure.  Ronald Reagan has achieved political sainthood.   Programs are irreverent; purity is. For the Democrats, both contenders are vying to inherit the Obama legacy, and both are traveling even further than Obama even dared toward the progressive agenda.  Both are trying to capture their base.  For the one, the rich are an infinitely taxable asset.  For the other, the rich comprise an achievement goal.  Both are dead wrong. The news outlets love this.  It gives extreme

Left versus Right

Here are a couple of comments you may not have heard before.  The left and the right extremes.  Each has locked him or her self into cubicles and thrown away the keys.  Nothing except highly polarized information sustaining their viewpoint can penetrate their view-ports.  Of course, there are constant visits by their clergy to keep them pure, and to review the catechism.  When you enter one of the cubicles, you have a life sentence .   Can you image one on the far right saying, “You know that idea of Obama on health care makes sense.  I could go with it.”  Or someone from the far left, saying “The surge of Bush in Iraq actually had a benefit and began to stabilize the area.” Never, never, and never. Said the lefty to the righty, “My billionaires are honest, trustworthy, and brave.  Yours are dishonest money grabbing capitalists.”  Said the righty to the lefty, “My billionaires are simply trying to preserve the best form of government that has ever been.  Yours are closet comm

Thoughts - Part II

Continuing from http://used-ideas.blogspot.com/2013/03/thoughts-part-1.html K.  All I here these days on political news is talking points from both the left and the right. On the left there must be solidarity of the President's message. No deviations.  No doubts. No alternatives are allowed.  The rich must pay their fair share; you may have "built" it but the government supplied the schools, roads, and other infrastructure.  Obamacare is clearly controlling and even reducing costs.  We must invest in America.  On the right most talking points concern taxes (i.e. no new ones), the magnitude of the debt, the repeal of Obamacare, the massive regulations, and of course gun control.    There is not one hint, one scintilla of compromise, excepting on immigration reform, a quest issue by both for votes.  L.  We have always had conservatives and liberals.  The one is much like the other, with differences measured slightly in the degrees of the programs they pass. This is why
