Presidential Politics - I

Who to support???? We see the Democrats performing a type of surgery upon the actions of the President, carefully distinguishing themselves from current policy only on particular matters.   They seem to live in fear of a insider condemnation.   Or they believe the President is essentially correct but for these particular exceptions. Overall, they are mostly united upon social programs.   Overall, they minimize international events, preferring to emphasize domestic issues, upon which there is merit, owing to a world view that every country is an independent agency.   If you so believe, this is your expression of what needs to be achieved.   If you believe climate change is paramount and more importantly anthropomorphic, these folks are your people.    The Democrats are more-or-less unified in their support for Secretary Clinton.   None of her established blemishes seem to matter.    Bernie is not  viable no matter how many/few like his honest but detached approach.  This is

Vision and Understanding

Vision for the blind By trade, I am a mathematician.  I can do lots of tricks in math, but only in math.  But there are so many things I just don't know.   Why don't I know?  What prevents me from knowing?  Why can't I answer so many questions?  This has to do with mental capacity, of course.   (See, http://used-ideas.blogspot.com/2012/05/how-to-teach-ant-how-to-read.html )   Still I keep trying.   This is despite the serious models presented to us by scientists and theologians to help me along. Let me explain understanding through the metaphor of sight. We use this metaphor all the time.  "I see it," is the most familiar expression.  Yet the deeper questions are how clearly you may see it, or how deep is your vision.   Vision-type statements involving understanding include. ·          I see what you mean. ·          It is still fuzzy, but I am getting on to it. ·          I saw through it at once. ·          They recognized the facts of the situat

On Aging - Part IV Clarity

Depth, humor, and politics, all have their perspectives in aging.  We need them surely.  Another facet of this great time is the clarity of vision. Or wisdom.  This is a time when we can see more clearly than ever - despite wearing glasses.  This is a time when the world becomes clear, void of the blur and emotions of youth, the confusions of achievement, and the abstractions of thought. Our vision becomes as simple as when we were children. This is not to say we are checking out or coming to a finality. It is to say this is a time when we can cut away the fog of all that heavy living.  Some achieve this from the beginning.  We never understood them; they were discounted as out of touch.  But in fact they were fully engaged with the depth of life as we could not comprehend it.  We do now.  We have returned to fundamental principles of life, and like me, have returned late in the game. It is a time for religion, for family, for politics, for fishing, for traveling, for sewing, for
