Gossip, Innuendo, and Worse

As with many occupations, many use similar methods though applied to differing venues. For example, teachers of different subjects. Ditto for engineers, psychologists, law enforcers, attorneys, and more. Today, it is the turn for public commentators – all stripes. The gossip columnist needs to be correct only occasionally. In accuracy, most need only to be close -   like in horseshoes, but out of slander’s reach. This makes for a lucrative life whose subjects know what fear and gossip can do.   Such is the brutal world of public individuals whose lives can be wrecked by a single shot.   News pundits , and junior versions, need only be plausible and have a constituency. Each needs only to avoid totally blatant, provable lies, concentrating on rumor and innuendo with a few selected truths mixed in.   Freedom of speech grants this right to everyone.   You or I cannot take advantage except at home, but many make a living on innuendo, in the press, on TV, in books, in blogs, a

Go Figure

Trump.  Nowadays...  If you watch left-leaning channels, you will rarely hear anything positive about Trump.  If you watch the other channels, you will hear constant editorials about how Trump is not living up to promises.  I mean like we are only at about 100 days in.  The Dems are locked into a unity of contempt; the Reps seem to have more camps of interest than most countries have political parties, each criticizing Trump isn’t pure enough in their direction.  Promises???  Most newly elected officials simply say what's that?  Go figure. -------------------------------- Salt.  When I was a kid, years and years ago, almost every locker room had salt dispensers.  We were advised to take some any time we felt we needed the mineral.  Then, suddenly they disappeared, with the admonition that it was only rarely needed.  More damage than harm, etc. Now it’s back with trainers recommending the need for salt when working out or playing hard.  Go figure. ------------------

Golden Rule???? The first transgression one accuses another of is that same transgression one will commit. It seems that the innocent will view the criminal of making against them what they would do personally.  This is a reversal or revision of the Golden Rule.  The new version is: "Accuse of others what you would do to them." On major crimes, you and I cannot quite understand and are horrified by a charge of... Murder, because you just could not do it. Bank robbery,  because you would not do it. Child molestation, because this is abhorrent. Stock price manipulation, because it is wrong. This is what makes these charges so interesting, so sensational, and so downright riveting on news broadcasts.  But  there are minor crimes you could do and see as possible, partly because you, yourself, could commit them. Crimes of rumor, gossip, and innuendo are a part of these.  On  personal note... I am by no means innocent.  Over many years I have done things, never c
