Suppose you heard
the new high resolution phones with high megapixel cameras could send subliminal
messaging through the camera lens into your eye and brain to market products to
you. The programming keeps track on how you respond to these messages and
adjusts the messages accordingly. Moreover,
the advanced programming required to transmit such messages is a product of
China. Would you believe this?

If you said yes, I believe this, it reveals a very
deep concern you have about what companies may be willing to do, and secretly
at that. At minimum, you are willing to believe that “reasonable” sounding technology
innovations are likely true.

If you said no, I don’t believe it, then you either
have a deep knowledge of what current technology can or cannot do. Alternatively, you have great trust in cell
phone firms not to betray the privacy of their customers by seeking new sources
of revenue.

So what is the
correct answer? I don’t know. The form of the question requires the camera
to have mild projection capacity, but the screen itself could be substituted to send with the
camera looking for reactions. Scary. However, you will recall that for a brief
period several years ago, TV stations were doing the same – sending the viewer subliminal
message to sell. So, it’s possible.
The attribution of
programming to China was just to spice up the believability. I could have said Facebook or Google! Who would then say no?
