The best any parent can do is to teach the three L's. They are

Live, Love, and Learn

Community, family, and teachers all play an essential role in this equation. In rare cases, the parent can teach all three. No surprises. In fact, the three L’s are the principal factors of every life.

· To live: This is the scope of your time on earth. It includes all you do, all your relations, all your dreams, and all your works. For example, you can live in a gossipy world of others or live in your personalized world of events.

· To love: Love is the highest order found in living. It is that emotional feeling toward your life and its relations. It is essential for the full realization of living. Many lives have no love, and without it, the life has less enrichment, stunted from higher possibilities.

· To learn: Learning is the engine of life. It guides us toward fulfillment, improvement, and enlightenment. Too many seek the comfort of relying on early lessons for their entire lives, never leaving the nest of earliest teachings, never understanding the broad scope of life, and never realizing unknown potential. Learning is to life as an accelerant is to fire.

No Sympathy From Me

Suicide Coming Home Many years ago, a friend hung himself in his basement. I was a pall-bearer at his funeral. I was shocked I was so asked. I did this. I did not understand why a good-looking fellow, intelligent, kindly, and true could do such a thing. He did. I do not. His family suffered greatly. Yet he left no issue. Thankfully. To my mind Country singer Mindy McCready, 37, showed us the very height of personal selfishness by committing suicide. By giving birth to two offspring, she accepted the responsibility to raise her newborn and six-year old son. She abrogated it spectacularly. (As did the father a month ago.) Though she may have suffered depression for any number of reasons, she has little sympathy from me for leaving behind a legacy that is now lost, is now parent-less, and may drift into problems of their own in the future.
