Boeing 737 Max

The most distressing things about the Boeing 737 Max jet problems are that they occur "on the cheap."  First Boeing rushes the FAA certification through, possibly with FAA  collusion.   Then, their navigation software wasn't tested well. It was even changed, but pilots were not in the information loop.   Third, Boeing has claimed flight simulators tests were neither needed nor required, even though the instrumentation configuration is closer to the 787 than the older model 737.   Finally, the company makes safety features optional. For an aircraft with a sticker price of $120+ million per each, and for the fact that more safety is better, this is almost the most striking. The amazing backdrop is that Boeing has traditionally been a near 100% reliable manufacturer of aircraft. Safe, efficient, and durable. All four points to serious personal problems, at the highest levels.  --------------------- Today, the amount of health information is doubling every seven m

Midas Touch

The Midas Touch.   Some leaders in business have the Midas touch because they carefully research the idea and decide the propitious time to act.    Probably, Warren Buffet fits this description.   Other leaders believe that what they touch should succeed simply because they have touched it.   I would put Tesla CEO Elon Musk in the second category. Transference of ability .   This phenomena posits that an expert in one area believes their expertise   transfers to another area (of their choice).   For example, the sports star turns to sports administrator,   the millionaire businessman who turns to politics, or the academic who turns to anything else. But in their minds, they are still the star.   If they fail, it is the fault of others. If they succeed, they prove themselves right.   Of course they all write books on how good they are at their new venture.

Random Thoughts - 30

On Marijuana. In Colorado, you can get a rocky mountain high. Sales for pot just hit a new high. Pot dealers give lessons on pot usage at their in-store “high” schools. The demand for legalized pot is at a record high. “High-er” education is now available in legalized-pot states. After a pot high trip, some come down-town. Is Colorado still the high-est state? Nowadays, the pot calls the kettle irrelevant. It is rumored soon drivers can will be able to shift to a new gear called high-drive. Did you hear about the kid who got high by weeding the backyard?  Some pot users want killing weed classified as a felony? AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) has created her very own class identity, the Inspired Idiots .   They’re noisy, but insensitive to facts, ready to believe the impossible, and enthusiastic contributors. Did you know snarkiness has its own signature?   After a while the apparent cleverness and contempt   of the satire becomes predictable and no long

I Love Words

I love words, and how so many sound similar but have totally different meanings.  In this chapter it's all in the "air" as we look at simple words ending with the sound "air" or "are" or "ere."  For teachers, its a great, even fun, way to stimulate students thinking about words, and building their vocabulary.  For adults, it's a great refresher.  The list is below, with those in capital's being names. air fare prayer tare bare hair rare tear Bayer hare sayer Thayer bear lair scare ware Blair layer share wear brayer mare spare Baer care pair square dare pare stair ere payer stare fair pear swear In addition there are lessor words, mostly from the Scottish.  zair mair gair Bair cair sair wair It's an airy day.  :)  So, get back in your lair to stare at this list while you bear the fair humor of this note. Spare the swear words, ere I dare to call you a square.

I am wet; I am dry. I am clear; I am high. I come with a stem But I cause mayhem. Touch me to your lips But don’t forget the tips. Answer to come next week. Or send an email. BTW, Today's movie: An assortment of one-liners strung together with special effects.

Natural vs Supplements

Bad news for us pill junkies...  A recent food supplements vs. food intake study found that people who consume adequate amounts of  vitamin K  or magnesium had a lower risk of death from any cause, compared with those who didn't. In addition, people who consume adequate levels of  vitamin A , vitamin K, zinc or copper had a lower risk of death from heart disease, compared with those who didn't . The key point is that the adequate amounts should have occurred from food, not supplements. The study also determined certain supplements, such as calcium, were associated with increased mortality risks. https://www.livescience.com/65186-vitamins-minerals-food-supplements.html?utm_source=notification

Economic Dolts

I watch a lot of business shows and a singular thing I’ve noticed is that many of the corporate capital management leaders think linearly.   Yes… They are always telling us that because of this there will be that.   There is not an assemblage of facts, hardly a thought, just a simple rule .    For example, a week or so ago we experienced a reversal of interest rates between short term and long term, with the longer term rates suddenly lower. Every guest interviewed told us a recession was imminent.   In two weeks, the rates were back to normal.   No recession at all. BTW, these people are paid big bucks.  ------------------------------------------------------- Political campaigns these days are different. They’re dirty, derogatory, and deranged.  All candidates must now prepare for ·        Pledging support for expensive and unrealistic goals, ·        Scandals, usually related to sex, though possibly fake, ·        Past sins, even back to high school, ·

The Real Climate Change

Political campaigns these days are different. They’re dirty, derogatory, and deranged.   All candidates must now prepare for ·        Pledging support for expensive and/or unrealistic goals, ·        Scandals, usually related to sex, though possibly fake, ·        Past sins, even back to high school, ·        Appeasing the base then pivoting to the middle, ·        Past lies (documented) and past lies (from weak testimonials), ·        Past or recent changes in policies or beliefs, ·        Income tax problems, ·        Illegal alien hiring. Given all this we give a question:  Who could possibly want to go into politics in this massive climate change?

Globalism and Billionaires

An interesting twist on globalism.    The suggestion is globalism is responsible for the rise of the super-wealthy billionaires. Look at the leaders of such global companies such as Alibaba, Amazon, Facebook, Bloomberg, Huawei, Microsoft, Alphabet (Google), and more.  All are operated or controlled by billionaires who have super-vast fortunes only because they are global. Nationalism, which reduces the globalist reach, also has billionaires, but much smaller in scale. When you can market your stuff worldwide, you have multiples of normal profit.

Wall of Worry

What is your “wall of worry?”  What issues cause you mental paralysis to action, solution, or resolution?  ************* Academic socialism. In the academic world, most professors can live with a little raise – along as everyone gets a little raise. Year after year, they endure. What rankles them is when someone gets a big raise and they don’t. They hate that.                                                                       ************* You know you’re financially in command when you have lots of money to buy that special thing you want but you don’t buy, preferring to keep green the money.                                                                         ************* Their economic plan for the country is like putting a used diaper on the baby, knowing it was tried, leaked, failed, and discarded.  It’s like watching the same movie again hoping the end changes.
