John F. Kennedy, in his Presidential inauguration address on Friday, January 20, 1961 declared, "my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."
President Kennedy may have been prescient but in an opposite way. It seems to be somewhat ironical that since that day, that statement, and that moment in history, Americans have responded by asking "What can my country can do for me?" This is the mantra of contemporary convenience. This is where we are. Pealing off the riches of a nation that has given so much to humanity, so much for human freedom, and so many sons and daughters sacrificed, it now rejoins by saying...
"Gimme more."
